How will the UPI help India be more self-reliant?

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a real-time payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) that enables users to make payments or transfer money instantly between bank accounts through a mobile app. The UPI has the potential to help India become more self-reliant in the following ways:

  1. Encouraging digital transactions: UPI enables cashless transactions and makes it easier for people to make payments using their mobile phones. By promoting digital transactions, UPI reduces the dependence on cash and helps in curbing black money and corruption.

  2. Promoting financial inclusion: UPI has made banking accessible to a wider section of society, especially those who do not have access to traditional banking services. This promotes financial inclusion and helps in building a stronger and more resilient economy.

  3. Boosting entrepreneurship: UPI has made it easier for small businesses and startups to receive payments from customers. This has encouraged entrepreneurship and boosted the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

  4. Reducing transaction costs: UPI has significantly reduced the transaction costs for businesses and individuals, making it cheaper to send and receive money. This has made it easier for businesses to conduct transactions and has reduced the cost of doing business.

  5. Facilitating international trade: UPI can facilitate international trade by making it easier for Indian businesses to receive payments from overseas customers. This promotes trade and helps Indian businesses expand their global reach.

By promoting digital transactions, financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, reducing transaction costs, and facilitating international trade, UPI has the potential to help India become more self-reliant and build a stronger economy.
